Born in 1958, Nataraj Sharma studied Appiled Art at MSU, Baroda. Some of his most recent exhibitions include Swimmer’s Manual and Other Stories, March 2018, Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi, Works on Paper- 2012, Gallery Espace, New Delhi, 2012; Back to School: Baroda 1979-89, Tao Art Gallery, Mumbai and Palette Art Gallery, New Delhi, 2011; Indian (Sub)Way, Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi / Grosvenor Vadehra, London, 2012; FLIGHT, Bodhi Art Gallery, Singapore, 2009; amongst others. Heavily influenced by pop art, especially that of Andy Warhol and Marcel Duchamp, Sharma’s visual vocabulary has striking impressions that draw from this aesthetic. Sharma was awarded the Sotheby’s Award for Best Emerging Artist in 1993, and participated in an artist residency programme at the Singapore Tyler Print Institute (STPI), Singapore in 2006.
